I spent most of my life saying yes to everything. Yes to extra projects. Yes to social events. Yes to helping others even when overwhelmed. I said yes because I feared saying no meant I was not a team player that I was selfish that I would disappoint people. But saying yes to everything meant saying no to myself. By thirty I burned out completely. I could not say yes anymore. So I started learning to say no. At first it felt terrible and guilty. But then something amazing happened. The people who truly cared did not leave. The work I said no to got done anyway. I got my life back. I got my energy back. Now I say no with confidence to protect my yes.
