I used to believe in soulmates. You know, that fairy tale idea where one perfect person completes you and suddenly everything makes sense. But life taught me something more nuanced and honest about love and connection. My first real relationship taught me about passion and intensity. We burned bright and fast, but we did not know how to communicate when things got hard. My second relationship taught me about compatibility. We got along great, but there was no depth. The third taught me that sometimes loving someone is not enough if you are moving in different directions. But here is what I learned through all these beautiful, messy experiences: Real connection is not about finding the perfect person. It is about two imperfect people choosing to show up fully for each other. It is about vulnerability – letting someone see your insecurities, your fears, your unpolished truth. It is about being willing to fight for understanding when conflict arises. It is about celebrating each others growth even when that growth takes you in unexpected directions. I have learned that the most meaningful connections come when both people are committed to their own growth and actively choose the relationship. Soulmates might exist, but I think they are created through consistent choice, mutual respect, honest communication, and the willingness to be transformed by loving someone. I no longer expect one person to complete me. Instead I am looking for someone to build something beautiful with – someone who will challenge me, support me, and allow me to do the same for them.
