I had a degree that looked good on paper. I had jobs that paid the bills. But I did not have a career that made me leap out of bed in the morning. I spent my twenties trying different paths – marketing, corporate communications, freelance writing – each one leaving me feeling like something was still missing. My parents wanted stability. My friends seemed satisfied with their choices. But I could not shake the feeling that I was meant for something more aligned with who I truly am. The turning point came during a layoff. Instead of panicking, something unexpected happened – I felt relieved. That is when I knew I had to make a real change. I took three months off to explore what truly excited me. I volunteered for a nonprofit working on community arts programs. I freelanced as a creative consultant. I took online courses in design and project management. I had coffee conversations with people doing work that inspired me. Through all this exploration, a pattern emerged. I came alive when I was helping creative professionals bring their visions to life, when I was building community, when I was solving problems creatively. So I created my dream job description and started looking for companies or roles that matched it. The first few interviews were humbling – I did not have all the traditional experience. But I had passion, transferable skills, and an authentic drive that showed. When I finally landed my current role as a Creative Strategist at a design studio, it felt like coming home. Sure, the path was not linear. Yes, I took financial risks. But every career setback had been teaching me something essential about myself. Now I work with a team I love, on projects that matter, doing work that uses my strengths and challenges me to grow.
