I grew up watching my mother navigate engineering in the eighties when there were almost no women. She was brilliant but had to work twice as hard. I internalized that this was the only way forward: sacrifice everything. For years I followed that path. I worked in finance climbing ranks proving myself over and over. By thirty I had achieved what society told me to: a prestigious job good salary and respect. But I was exhausted and empty. I left my job and took six months to think. I realized I wanted impact more than prestige. I started my own fund investing in companies led by women and people of color. Now I make decisions based on values not shareholder returns. I mentor young women entrepreneurs and use my privilege to help others break through ceilings.
