When my son was born I realized everything I knew was incomplete. I had been focused on career achievements. But holding my newborn I felt a seismic shift in priorities. I made a conscious decision to be intentional about fatherhood. I started reading parenting books going to therapy and having difficult conversations about co-parenting. I learned that being a good father is not about being perfect. It is about showing up being vulnerable apologizing when wrong and creating a safe space. Today my son tells me things. He trusts me. We have built a relationship based on honesty and mutual respect. Being his father has made me a better man.
